"Barnard/Columbia SEEDS Chapter" >> New York City, New York

We are thrilled to announce the SEEDS Chapter |
Upcoming Plans
This upcoming academic year is going to be an important year for the Barnard Biology Club and, thus, SEEDS. It is our first full year as a club and, in addition to recruitment, hosting fun and engaging activities are a priority.
Two ideas we have proposed are seminars or panels, both of which include an ecological focus. The first is, “How to Study Abroad as a Science Major” in which students and administrators will discuss their experiences and give advice, including how to turn fieldwork into academic credit. The other seminar is “After College, Before Career” which aims to inform seniors of possible internship and masters programs, including ecological research in the US and abroad that they can engage in before picking a more long-term position.
Other proposals include a campus-wide scavenger hunt, which would highlight local biodiversity and “foraging” trips, which would allow students to gather edible items from New York City parks.
The Barnard Biology Club is eager to take advantage of the local environment in order to introduce our community to urban ecology.
This year, the CUEBS already has plans for additional field trips, including an overnight trip to Black Rock Forest in Cornwall, NY. There is also considerable interest in screening the documentary film “A Flock of Dodos” on campus.
The BBC and CUEBS are interested in synergizing their activities.
We are very excited to have the Barnard College / Columbia University chapter in our network and wish them all the best for all of their endeavors.
